Urban Teacher Lounge

By Black teachers. For Black teachers.

Urban Teachers Lounge is an unapologetically Black teacher initiative centering our voices, labor, joy, and survival in a profession where we represent roughly 6% of the national teaching force. The Lounge exists to remind educators—especially Black women—that their stories are knowledge.

This is not a marketing platform. This is a space for voice.

Why We Center Black Teachers

Black teachers remain significantly underrepresented in the profession, despite serving increasingly diverse student populations. This reality shapes working conditions, professional isolation, leadership pathways, and well-being.

Urban Teachers Lounge exists as an unapologetically Black teacher space because Black educators deserve environments where their experiences are not minimized, explained away, or treated as secondary. Centering Black teachers is not about exclusion—it is about restoration, clarity, and care.

When Black educators are supported, students, schools, and communities benefit. Support begins by naming who the work is for.

Black teachers matter. Full stop.
